    You don’t have to “not count” anything to arrive at 2046. Observe the following ten numbers:
    2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 + 64 + 128 + 256 + 512 + 1024 = ?

    10 numbers for 10 pairs of years. The sum is 2046.

    It’s true that the 21st and 22nd years will change as if they were 2048 of our present years, because each number follows the pattern of 2^x. But when summing up the pattern, don’t forget that it doesn’t QUITE reach 2^(x+1).
