Elect a President Just Like Me

Recently the word ‘elite’ has become a pejorative.  On election day, let’s remember what that word means and why elite people are good.

This so perfectly highlights my annoyance with the recent connotation of the e-word. Thank you.

    Absolutely perfect!

Adding the definition really proves your point.

Right, because it does not also mean: “a relatively small dominant group with a larger society, which enjoys a privileged status ehich us upheld by individuals of a lower status within the structure”

From that Latin: to elect…. which pretty much means that whimever is elected will be the elite, don’t it?

I think when used in the pejorative sense recently people are referring to the wealthy, rather than the talented and useful elite, which I think is the point Hawke was trying to make.
