Reckless
Update: Interesting, it seems that the Economist put up an article this week that relates to the comic. Apparently, religious people are more likely to ask for dramatic medical treatment, even if of dubious value, to extend their life. Atheists are less likely.
Check out Religion, Medicine and Evading Death: But not yet, Lord on the Economist.

This is why the Bible needed lawyers, though, I think somewhere in there it says they are one of their anti-god’s Minions.

I thnk several suicide bombers are already using that loophole fighting the “infidels”.

Tempting providence seems to be still a sin

This is why I question the authenticity of the beliefs of Christians who look before crossing the road or the myriad of other things we do to stay alive. The Bible says quite clearly to not fear the death of the body, but rather to fear he who can kill the soul.
I guess it’s just a shame that I’m a little more rational and can have the pleasure of following what I think, through to its logical conclusions and not end up in a big mess… Oh how horrible it is to live life that is consistent with what I think, how I long to be a hypocrite…. (that was sarcasm, have to be careful online).

This is strange. These people make a big fuss about abortion because they value life and now they’re saying something different!
February 27th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Well, now, be fair. There’s a far cry from “Don’t be afraid of death when it happens” and “Step head-long into traffic.”
I also follow things out to the most logical conclusion, btw.

The Bible also expects that human beings would have common sense. “I call on heaven and earth as witnesses today that I have offered you life or death, blessings or curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants will live” Deuteronomy 30:19.

This is exactly the kind of high minded bollocks that makes people angry. There’s a difference between borderline idiocy and self preservation, and you know it. But no, you had to make a point by denouncing an entire group of people as idiots. And that entire second paragraph is just wank, all of it.

There is no loophole here. Putting your life at risk is just as bad as outright ending it.
Deuteronomy 6:16
Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
Luke 4:5-7
Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you and with their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” Jesus answered him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.’”

Wait a sec- I’m christian. Does that mean I’m not allowed to look before I cross the road? Daemonax obviously does not get religion. The bible says that life is PRECIOUS- Duh. And it ain’t lawyers that are evil, as said in the first post. It’s humanity that’s evil. Well, in a way i guess- corrupt would be a better term.

Closer, but not exactly. Humans are, by nature, selfish. We fight so much because of an instinctive desire to ensure our own offspring have the most resources. We associate all members of a group that has previously wronged us, as automatically a threat to us (Example: after 9/11, many Americans assumed all Muslims were lunatic terrorists). We may hate to admit it, even dogmatically insist that we don’t, but the urge to prejudge is still there. It takes dedication and patience to learn how to silence our prejudice.

the funniest things are the ads that pop up on the left and below…. LMAO. If they only understood content….

Ross, I get religion, especially if it’s Christianity. Surely god would have his angels protecting you at all time, so what is there to fear about stepping out into the road without looking?
We can both pick and choose scripture to back up our points.

“Surely god would have his angels protecting you at all time,…”
Hehe… why?
Surely God doesn’t have to do anything. He’s freakin’ God after all.
And, I have to say, I am very glad you “get” religion… whatever that means…
Anyways, the picture is stupid and I’m sure the creator of it realizes that. “Reckless Self-Endangerment” with the intent to kill yourself is still suicide.

Lol I <3 this it reminds me of this person on oprah that was dieing and they was ask “are you scared to die” and they said “NO IM EXCSITED!!! I CANT WAIT!!!!”

It’s a cartoon. It’s meant to be a joke and something that you laugh at. Though I have to say, the fact that most of you are taking it so seriously is probably funnier than the cartoon itself. No one should be so high strung, especially not where a cartoon is concerned.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
The joke was funny, but the comments even more so. We all have a different God, yet which is the real one?
People quote verses from ancient texts, where the authors had a very different way of explaining things, and expect this to be “How it should be” … where fundamentally all religions hold the same values of how humanity should be. It’s not about God it’s about how you behave, if you want to recklessly endanger your life that’s all you or you want to do good/bad things its on you.
Your life is your heaven or hell however you choose to make it, preparing yourself throughout this short existance for something great that you deserve living in eternal happiness, you’re missing the point.
I’m not an atheist btw, I just realise that God is something far beyond our comprehension, and that ‘good/bad’ or ‘heaven/hell’ is something man created.

Religion
The light and the dark
Religion
…the epicentre of humanity
…the light that guides the soul
…the sword that cuts through doubt
…the force that makes life whole
Religion
…the light unto darkness
…a wretched curse of the mind
…an abyss of sordid indoctrination
…where the blind seek the blind

Lol @ross the bible may say that life is precious, but the christian god itself isn’t pro-life
see http://www.evilbible.com/god%27s%20not%20pro-life.htm
The bible is just used to control people. It can be interpreted in every possible way, so as long as people believe that it and it’s interpreters are valid, they can be convinced of anything. I’ve seen a lot of parts of the bible that are basically about submitting to your superiors. It was used in the middle ages to keep the people tame and then people went ahead and decided to use it to confirm their own (stupid) beliefs…
@AM close but no cigar – God is another thing man created. Ironic, right? Make something up so you can get people to not understand it. It ties into the whole submission thing – God works in mysterious ways, so nobody understands it. Then you can bend the concept whichever way you please to get people to do your bidding, as long as they think you’re closer to god than them.
@Rayed Darwish who the hell asked for some stupid poem about religion? Use something stupid (poetry) to make something stupid (religion) sound more stupid, why don’t you.
@Debaser, the whole idea is to piss people off. The high minded bollocks is just to make oneself feel better. It’s fun. Try it.

Not sure I get this. Is it a sin to parachute jump? How about jumping from the New River Bridge w/chute? Base jumping? Scuba diving? Driving? Motorcycling? Bicycling? All of these activities place life at risk, to different degrees. Where does the line between “exciting activity” and “sin” lie?
